Women’s focus is on Grafton

All eyes will be on Ellem Oval tomorrow with the only match in the Women’s competition being played in Grafton.

Due to byes and postponements the Grafton Tigers and Lismore Swans Women will be at the epicentre of Women’s footy on the North Coast in what is an intriguing match-up.

Grafton Women are playing their second ever match as a Women’s team and are keen to test themselves again.

Coach Warren Bagnall said “After their first match the girls really appreciated the bye last week to rest their bodies, but they’re keener than ever to get stuck in and test themselves against a team we all expect to go do deep into the Finals.

“The majority of our players are in their late teens. The step up to Women’s footy from Youth Girls is a big step as we knew it would be, but the girls are fit, they’re fast, and have good skills so we need to play to those strengths and keep the ball moving.”

Lismore are a vastly more experienced outfit and are keen to back up last week’s win with another strong performance.

Lismore player Emma Stoddart said “Our team has a lot of players over 30 but we’re all loving playing against teams that we’ve never met before. The win last week was great, but playing against Port and getting to know their team was even better.

“Grafton is another new challenge for us and we’re not going into it lightly. The whole team will be really up for this match.”
