AFL Future Leaders Community Program is open now!
Youth Leadership training returns in 2020 with a revamped program that will be conducted across six (6) areas of the state.
Last year’s AFL North Coast program proved so successful that AFL NSW/ACT has adopted the model and will be delivering it to the majority of the state/territory. The Office of Sport has also come on board with funding through the Her Sport Her Way program to make the program as accessible as possible for females.
The AFL Future Leaders Community Program is designed to support males and females aged 13 to 18 in the development of leadership skills that will help participants in the sporting environment (on and off field), within their family life, at school, and in employment. Training will be delivered by Institute of Sport, a leading provider in this area.
This year’s program will be split into two groups – ASPIRING LEADERS (13 to 15 year olds) and EMERGING LEADERS (16 to 18 year olds) with each group undertaking a four (4) hour face to face workshop. Both workshops will be conducted on Sunday 16 February 2020 at C.ex Coffs International Stadium, with the EMERGING LEADERS program running from 9:00am to 1:00pm and the ASPIRING LEADERS from 1:00pm to 5:00pm.
Before attending the face to face workshops, participants will undertake a two hour online module. Once the season gets underway participants will be expected to take on a leadership role within the sport to put the skills learnt into practice. These roles may include umpiring, coaching, and/or helping with Auskick.
Players don’t have to be in a leadership role within their footy team to be eligible to be considered.
To nominate for the program individuals must be born in 2002 to 2007 (inclusive), available to undertake the relevant face to face workshop on 16 February, and complete the below form by Friday 31 January 2020. Individuals will be advised the outcome of their nomination in the following week and will need to pay the heavily subsidised levy before the program commences.
