Momentum is key in Women’s competition

This round of Women’s footy will be all about momentum – either keeping it or getting it back.

The new found confidence in the Northern Beaches/Grafton camp will be tested by the visit of front runners Coffs Harbour Breakers.

The Blue Tigers’ first win was a watershed moment for the joint venture club that has allowed coaches and players to re-evaluate the goals for the remainder of the season. Expectations of back to back wins won’t be discussed within the group as the focus will be on competing for all four quarters against the competition’s form team.

The Breakers have come so far in 2019 and their improvement has almost been underestimated. After winning only one match in the entirety of last season, they find themselves on top of the ladder with a seven and two record. Last week’s victory over the Magpies in Port was a milestone in itself for the Breakers and will have proven to the players that they are genuine contenders.

Port Macquarie Magpies will be keen to get back to winning ways as quickly as possible and the visit of the Sawtell Toormina Saints can’t come around quickly enough.

Kicking for goal has been an issue that has reared it’s head on several occasions for Port. Last week was just one of those times and it cost the Magpies the chance to claim victory. Their line-up is as strong as any in the competition with quality players right across the park, if the goal kicking yips can be fixed they will be extremely hard to beat.

There is no doubt that Port will attack the match against Sawtell with a steely resolve as they look to make a statement that last week was a blemish.

The Saints are still working their way through a challenging injury run. A number of players are still missing, expected to be out for several weeks yet, while those that have returned are not yet fully fit and are operating below capacity. The team will have been stung by last week’s loss to the Blue Tigers and will want to claim a win to shore up third spot on the ladder.
