Women’s competition heading down same path as Men

The Women’s competition is almost mirroring the Men’s, with both Port Macquarie Magpies and Coffs Harbour Breakers surging ahead.

The Magpies were a class above Northern Beaches/Grafton as they return to near full strength following the university exam period. Port had a six goal lead at half time then powered on with four goals in each of the two remaining quarters to maintain their intensity right through to the final siren.

The “Blue Tigers” welcomed the vastly experienced Alana Hanson to their line-up following the birth of her second child and her leadership as a premiership player in both the North West and North Coast competitions will be a boon for the team as she works towards full fitness.

Port Macquarie Magpies 13.8 (86) defeated Northern Beaches/Grafton 0.1 (1)

Coffs Harbour Breakers are shaping as a genuine premiership threat after they recorded their second consecutive win against Sawtell Toormina Saints.

Breakers held the Saints scoreless in the first term to open up a 14 point lead and that was as close as the match got at any stage. Sawtell improved after the break to record their first goal but the Breakers countered with two of their own to extend the lead.

Saints here held scoreless again in the third term with two goals to the Breakers pushing the lead out to 33 points. Sawtell saved their best for last to kick two goals in the final term while poor kicking from the Breakers meant they only added five behinds.

Goalkicking honours for the Breakers were shared between Katika Adams, Tarryn Arnold, Jenna Flick, and Kyah Griffith with one each.

Kasey Uikelotu booted two goals for Sawtell to be the only multiple goal kicker in the match. Keira Basset was well held by Bella Crawley but still managed to add one goal for the Saints.

Coffs Harbour Breakers 6.10 (46) defeated Sawtell Toormina Saints 3.2 (20)
