Junior clubs put best foot forward for charity

The Bellingen Bulldogs, Nambucca Valley Lions, and South West Rocks Dockers will be wearing rainbow laces in Sunday’s matches to support a great cause.

The three clubs are marking their round 14 matches as Zaidee’s Round and will be wearing the rainbow laces to raise awareness of organ and tissue donation. This is the second successive year that AFL North Coast and the clubs have supported this worthy charity.

The Sawtell Toormina Saints and Port Macquarie Magpies Junior clubs have both shown their support by making a donation to Zaidee’s Rainbow Foundation.

The round is named in honour of Zaidee Turner who was just 7 years old when she died in 2004 from a Cerebral Aneurism. Zaidee donated her organs and tissues which resulted in the lives of seven other people being improved or saved. Zaidee was the only child in Victoria under the age of 16 years to donate her organs and tissues in 2004.

Currently, there are more than 1,400 people on the national transplant waiting list in Australia. More than 50 of those waiting are children. Zaidee’s Rainbow Foundation exists to give children and adults of all ages a second chance in life by helping to inspire discussion about organ and tissue donation.

It is hoped that the wearing of the rainbow laces will inspire families across the region to have a conversation about organ and tissue donation.
