Junior Competition Marks Zaidee’s Round

The AFL North Coast Junior Competition will mark round 13 as Zaidee’s Round, with players wearing rainbow laces to raise awareness of organ and tissue donation.

The round is named in honour of Zaidee Turner who was just 7 years old when she died in 2004 from a Cerebral Aneurism. Zaidee donated her organs and tissues which resulted in the lives of seven other people being improved or saved. Zaidee was the only child in Victoria under the age of 16 years to donate her organs and tissues in 2004.

Currently, there are more than 1,400 people on the national transplant waiting list in Australia. More than 50 of those waiting are children. Zaidee’s Rainbow Foundation exists to give children and adults of all ages a second chance in life by helping to inspire discussion about organ and tissue donation.

The Foundation is a major charity partner of Auskick. AFL North Coast is honoured to join with Leagues across Australia in conducting Zaidee’s Round. Through the wearing of the rainbow laces we hope to inspire families across the region to have a conversation about organ and tissue donation.
