Calling All Women!

If you’ve ever wanted to play AFL, here’s your chance, as Women’s AFL is coming to the North Coast in a big way during July!

Two matches will be staged within the region this month as momentum builds towards starting a North Coast Women’s competition in 2018.

The first of these matches will be on Saturday 15 July when a North Coast team plays against the Lismore Swans at Coffs Coast Sport and Leisure Park, Coffs Harbour (match starts 12:30pm).

The second match will be on Saturday 29 July against Tamworth Kangaroos at Wayne Richards Park, Port Macquarie (time t.b.c.).

These matches will build upon the two already played, one in Grafton and the other in Inverell. The women who have played in these matches have come to the sport with no prior experience playing the game and have an age range between 16 and mid 40s. This shows that age or a lack of experience don’t need to be a barrier to joining in – the only pre-requisite is enthusiasm!

There’s no cost to participate, or expectation that people will commit to multiple matches. The plan is to get as many women as possible playing at least one match so that this can build into a four team competition in 2018. These teams would be part of the existing Senior AFL clubs in the area, meaning that grounds, coaches, and committee will all be taken care of.

So grab your friends, come down to the ground, and get involved with the fastest growing sport for women in the country!

Any woman interested in playing in one or both of these matches should contact the AFL Northern NSW office on 6659 6000 for more info.
