Under 11s Get Down and Dirty!

The highlight of the weekend’s round of Junior footy was the Under 11 Cross Over matches played at EJ Biffin Oval, Nambucca Heads. The day consisted of ten Under 11 teams, 120 players, and ten matches across two fields, totalling five hours of footy!

After the rain that fell earlier in the week the grounds were still very wet but this didn’t bother the players at all. It was much more of a concern for parents who had to put wet and muddy bodies in the car at the end of the day!

Each Under 11 team played two matches against teams from the other half of the competition – southern half is Manning Valley to Macleay Valley, northern half is Nambucca to Grafton.

This was the second Cross Over round in 2017, on both occasions the standard of play has been fantastic and the feedback from players, parents, and coaches has been overwhelmingly positive. This format is an absolute winner! There is one further Cross Over round planned for South Kempsey Oval on Sunday 6 August.

Congratulations to host club, the Nambucca Valley Lions, on a day extremely well staged. For a fledgling club in its first year of operation this was a huge task. The absolute deluge that hit the area in the week leading in just made this task so much harder and the Lions did an amazing job to be able to get two fields set up at the very last minute so that the day could go ahead.
