Junior Footy Wrap – Round 5

Coffs Breakers v Macleay Valley Eagles

The highlight of the weekend’s round of Junior footy was the Under 11 Cross Over matches played at Richardson Park. The day consisted of ten Under 11 teams, 150 players, and ten matches across two fields, totalling five hours of footy! Add to that four Auskick Centres who played earlier in the day, plus the Sawtell Toormina Saints v Northern Beaches Under 13 teams. What a great day!

Each Under 11 team played two matches against teams from the other half of the competition – southern half is Manning Valley to Macleay Valley, northern half is Nambucca to Grafton. The standard of play was fantastic and the feedback from players, parents, and coaches was that the day was great.

There are two further rounds of Cross Over matches where the same format will be used. These rounds are on Sunday 10 July at Nambucca Heads, and Sunday 6 August at South Kempsey.

Another highlight of the round was the two Youth Girls matches where Coffs Breakers beat Grafton Tigers by 9 points, whilst the Port Macquarie Magpies claimed their first win of the season with a narrow 2 point victory against the previously unbeaten Macleay Valley Eagles.

The match of the round in the Under 13 competition, was between Port Macquarie Magpies and the Bellingen Bulldogs. Scores were locked at both quarter and half time, Port held a slender 9 point lead at the three quarter break, and with both teams scoring 7 points in the last quarter Port held on to win by 9 points.

In the other Under 13 matches, Grafton Tigers, Macleay Valley Eagles, and Sawtell Toormina Saints had strong wins over Coffs Breakers, Manning Valley Mustangs, and Northern Beaches Blues respectively.

In the Under 15.5 competition, Macleay Valley Eagles had a big win over the Camden Haven Bombers, Coffs breakers were too strong for the Grafton Tigers, and Port Macquarie cruised to victory against Bellingen Bulldogs.
